Abraham Santiago

Released in August 2022 after two decades in prison, Abraham Santiago is a husband, father, and lifelong learner. While imprisoned, he became a certified nursing assistant and, as an incarcerated student and founding member of the Second Chance Educational Alliance, he’s a fierce advocate for higher education in prison. Abraham is a working member of the New England Commission on the Future of Higher Education in Prison, a joint endeavor of the Educational Justice Institute at MIT and the New England Board of Higher Education. He’s a consultant for Southern New Hampshire University on reentry programs, and a policy consultant for the Center for Court Innovation’s recent initiative, ‘Moving Justice Forward.’ Abraham works for the non-profit Apt Foundation, which provides treatment and services for the underserved coping with substance abuse, and at Yale New Haven Hospital as an ICU patient care clinician.
