Ashleigh Smith

Ashleigh Smith is a writer and a student at Eastern Michigan University’s College in Prison (CiP) program. Smith is the 2024–25 Al Davey Creative Writing Scholarship Award recipient, a 2025 URSP fellowship awardee, and her work was selected by the Cellar Roots editors for the Jury’s Choice Honor. Smith has published over two dozen pieces of writing, spanning creative nonfiction, memoir, advocacy journalism, and poetry. Smith also is a co-creater/editor of Behind the Wire, EMU’s CiP newsletter.
