Daniel Nichanian is a contributing editor at Inquest. He is a writer and journalist who works on criminal justice, voting rights, and American politics and elections. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, FiveThirtyEight, Democracy, Vox, and more. In 2018, Nichanian launched and served as the editorial director of The Political Report, a project on the local politics of criminal justice hosted at The Appeal until 2021. He also created What’s on the Ballot, a website that has tracked hundreds of local elections. Nichanian has a PhD in political theory from the University of Chicago, where he also worked as a postdoctoral fellow
