Jonathan Ben-Menachem is a PhD candidate in Sociology at Columbia University, where he researches the politics of criminalization and crime journalism. He has written about similar topics for the Washington Post, Slate, Defector, and more. His academic research has appeared in the American Political Science Review. Prior to graduate school, he was a policy and communications staffer for the Fines and Fees Justice Center.
