K. Robert Schaeffer

K. Robert Schaeffer is originally from Oley, Pennsylvania. Incarcerated since 2009, he’s won seven awards in the PEN Prison Writing Contest, including first prizes for fiction, drama, and memoir. His essay “Tarkovsky by Countlight” appeared in the Gettysburg Review. Other work has been featured in Barzakh, the Iconoclast, and Rain Shadow Review. He is currently at work on his first book, the memoir “Scan Before Reading,” which recounts the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections’ adoption of mail scanning in late 2018 and how that practice has impacted an inmate’s ability to stay connected with the outside world.
