Katherine Beckett


Katherine Beckett is a professor of law, societies, and justice and the S. Frank Miyamoto Professor of Sociology at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her research explores criminal law in action, the causes and consequences of mass incarceration, and the role of race in the criminal legal system. She is theauthor of Banished: The New Social Control in Urban America (co-authored with Steve Herbert), and her newest book, Ending Mass Incarceration, will be released by Oxford University Press in fall of 2021.
