Katherine Beckett is S. Frank Miyamoto Professor of Sociology and Professor in the Law, Societies & Justice Department at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her research explores criminal law in action, the causes and consequences of mass incarceration, and the role of race in the criminal legal system. She is the author of four books on these topics, including, most recently, Ending Mass Incarceration: Why it Persists and How to Achieve Meaningful Reform, published by Oxford University Press in 2021.
