Kyana Givens

Kyana Givens became a federal public defender in the Eastern District of North Carolina in 2020 after being a visiting attorney advisor at Defender Services Office, Training Division, in Washington, D.C. from August 2018 to December 2019. She previously served as a trial attorney at the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Washington since 2009 and a state public defender with the now King County Public Defender (formerly The Defender Association) in 2005.  On March 31, 2022, then-Chief Judge Jeffrey R. Howard of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit announced that the selection of Ms. Givens to serve as the next Federal Public Defender for the Districts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. She will assume the position upon the successful completion of a full background investigation. In the meantime, Ms. Givens has been appointed the interim federal public Defender in those districts beginning her term on May 9, 2022.
